If you are over 60 and dealing with joint stiffness, back pain, balance concerns, or reduced mobility, chiropractic care is one of the safest and most effective options available. And if you have Medicare, it is covered. Here is what senior patients need to know.

Why Chiropractic Makes Sense After 60

Aging changes your spine. Discs lose hydration and height. Joints develop arthritis. Muscles lose mass and flexibility. These changes are normal, but they create stiffness, pain, and reduced function that medication alone cannot fix. Chiropractic care directly addresses the mechanical problems that drive these symptoms.

The biggest misconception about chiropractic for seniors is that it involves aggressive twisting and cracking. It does not have to. Dr. Gonzalez uses a range of techniques from traditional manual adjustments to very gentle instrument-assisted methods. The approach is always matched to the patient.

Common Conditions We Treat in Senior Patients

  • Osteoarthritis. The most common reason seniors visit us. Regular adjustments maintain joint mobility and slow the progression of arthritis. Combined with PT strengthening, most patients see meaningful improvement in function.
  • Spinal stenosis. Narrowing of the spinal canal that causes leg pain and difficulty walking. Flexion-distraction decompression is highly effective and completely non-invasive.
  • Chronic back and neck pain. Decades of wear create cumulative spinal problems. We manage them with consistent, gentle care rather than relying on pain medication.
  • Balance and fall prevention. Spinal dysfunction impairs proprioception (your body's sense of position). Improving spinal function through adjustments, combined with balance exercises, reduces fall risk.
  • Post-surgical rehab. After knee or hip replacement, chiropractic and PT help restore full function and address compensatory patterns that developed before surgery.

Our Approach for Older Adults

Gentle techniques. Low-force adjustments, instrument-assisted methods (Activator), and mobilization techniques that are effective without being aggressive. If you have osteoporosis, we adjust our approach accordingly.

Fall prevention focus. Karl Cuenco, PT, includes balance training and functional exercises in every senior treatment plan. The goal is not just reducing pain. It is keeping you independent, mobile, and safe on your feet.

Coordination with your other doctors. We communicate with your primary care physician, orthopedist, or rheumatologist as needed. Your care here complements your existing medical team, it does not replace it.

Medicare and Insurance for Seniors

We accept Medicare Part B, most Medicare Advantage plans, and Medigap supplemental policies. We also accept Medicaid NJ. Our staff verifies your specific coverage before your first visit so you know exactly what you will pay.

For services not covered by Medicare (such as acupuncture or some PT services), we offer affordable self-pay rates. Ask about our senior packages.
